- This story discusses a problem that is very big in a lot of areas across the state of Florida and that is the issue with residential buildings and houses not being properly taken care of. The condition of many of the buildings that are in the city of Miami are very low and many buildings that the resident stay in are run down and old looking. The article states "The receiver has done what she can do and the courts have done what they can do. But that's not going to be enough to sustain long-term changes," said Alana Greer, a Community Justice Project attorney representing low-income tenants at the 6040 building, where tenants in two units say their ceilings once buckled above their sleeping children.
I think the article about recess in very interesting but I have to say I disagree with it. Recess should be something that is mandatory for kids. It is proven and many studies that recess actually helps a child’s cognitive ability. It also has become a very crucial part to Finland’s education system which is now in the top three best education systems of the world. I also like the idea of crime-free housing. I think it’s something we all want but is hard to find nowadays. Here is a link to my blog if you want to check it out.

Markemia:
ReplyDeleteYou have quite a diverse list of local opportunities listed, good job. The one in particular that peeked my interest in particular is the homeless issue in Volusia county. The current group is staked outside the government building to "protest" and while I completely understand their concerns, the county/city has made efforts to provide housing and services to them (via the Salvation Army) but because they do not allow them to drink or smoke, the homeless people do not find that a viable option. I feel that homelessness is an issue that has been plaguing our community for a long and it is sad that the council is just starting to address the issue. On both ends, there is solution, they just need to meet in the middle.
Check out my blog where I also talk about a government issue:
